We welcome your interest in seeking admission for your children at Fraser Valley Elementary School. Admission to Fraser Valley Elementary School is selective and highly competitive and is based on a complete review of each student as a whole person. If you have any additional questions, please contact our admissions office at 604-533-5469 Ext. 221.
More policies are available for parents to review such as administrating medication and fire and earthquake drills.
Withdraw Policy
In the event a student withdraws after commencement of the school year, notice of withdrawal shall be given one term in advance, in addition to the current term, or fees shall be paid in lieu thereof. In the event of a student being expelled from the school, no tuition fees will be refunded.
Anti Bullying
Bullying, either through physical or verbal behaviour, inappropriate remarks and physical touching are not allowed in our school. Teachers intervene quickly should any child become too aggressive and we gently redirect the behaviour so that it is more positive. We believe that children need to have their negative behaviour explained to them, so they can see their errors and work to correct them. Should the child not be able, or not willing, to alter their behaviour, we will immediately contact the child's parents. It is our hope that school and family work together to help all our students. If the behaviour continues with no sign of improvement we will ask that they be excluded from FVES.
A child can only be excluded from our school after the family has received three formal letters, from the Principal, informing the family of the concerns the school has about their child's behaviour.
If any child at FVES feels they are being victimized they, and their parents, are welcome to meet with the class teacher to discuss the mater. Situations that are more serious will be handled through the family and the principal.
Work Ethics
Our expectations of work are very high. It is our aim to help students and our constant observation and assessment ensures that each child produces work that is of a standard we feel acceptable for their age and ability. We help our children to achieve the very best they are capable of - goals are created individually, and in the higher grades we encourage the students to set their personal educational goals with the help of their teacher and parents. Should we feel that a child is not working to their fullest capacity we will immediately speak to the student and then their parents.
Uniform
We expect students to wear the full school uniform daily. Shoes must be sensible and suitable for school life. Peattire is also mandatory. Parents are encouraged to see the school Principal if they have any problems with school uniform. Uniform is available through Neat Uniforms: http://www.rjmccarthy.com/estore/eStore_2.aspx Tel: 604.205.7560
Homework
All grades have mandatory homework at least three times per week. Homework is designed to consolidate lessons learned at school. Should homework become problematic, please see the class teacher.
Food
We are a nut and peanut free school and we also encourage healthy eating. Candy is not allowed in school and gum is strictly forbidden. Food is not shared at lunch or snack time and uneaten food is taken back home to help parents establish and idea of how their child is eating. Special diets are closely followed.
